Legion College to welcome its 2015 class

From Oct. 25-30, 54 Legionnaires will convene at The American Legion National Headquarters in Indianapolis for the annual National Legion College. This year's session of Legion College will enhance attendees' knowledge of the organization and provide best practices on how to become an effective leader at all levels of the Legion.

As a group, Legion College attendees will meet in the National Executive Committee room on the fourth floor of the headquarters building. During this time they will hear from National Commander Dale Barnett about the importance of being a strong leader within the Legion, as well as:

  • Watch leadership videos and host discussions.
  • Learn the leadership principle PEOPLE (professionalism, empathy, optimism, partnership, loyalty, empowerment).
  • Learn how to run a post meeting.
  • Learn how to establish a post-level Legion College.
  • Receive training on ways to promote Americanism and Children & Youth programs within their community.
  • Receive training on The American Legion Extension Institute, which educates members about the organization's history.

Attendees will also break into smaller groups to:

  • Write a resolution covering any topic of the Legion.
  • Develop leadership roles for post commander and adjutant, and district/county commander.
  • Discuss the leadership principle PEOPLE.
  • Conduct assignments given after leadership videos.
