Post GR09 lays wreath for German Memorial Day

On Nov. 17, 2013 - German Volkstrauertag (Memorial Day) - 10 members of William D. Nelson Post GR09, Department of France, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Ulm Artillery Monument honoring soldiers who died in combat and persons who have suffered at the hands of oppressors.

The Traditional Ulmer Artillery Association was formed in 1909, and since 2009 GR09 has participated in this solemn affair. Each year the post jointly co-hosts a grill party with the Artillery Association members. With this friendship The American Legion also disseminates understanding of the Legion’s principles to our German hosts.
