Legion again big part of Rolling Thunder

Multiple American Legion activities again will be taking place during this year’s annual Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride into the nation’s capital Memorial Day weekend.

Starting Thursday, Post 177 in Fairfax, Va., will be conducting a variety of events for Rolling Thunder participants, including dinners, a POW-MIA ceremony, a motorcycle ride/candlelight vigil at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and a performance by the band Madison Rising as part of the Defend Freedom Summer Tour. The tour also features guest speakers, including Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, New York Times best-selling author and decorated Army Ranger Sean Parnell, Navy SEAL Gold Star mother Karen Vaughn and others.

American Legion Emblem Sales will have a table set up at Post 177 so attendees can purchase ALR merchandise and other Legion family items.

On Sunday, riders will depart from Post 177 for the “Run to the Thunder” ride to the Pentagon. To register for the ride and for more information on Post 177’s events – as well as information on area hotels and volunteer opportunities – click here.

Following Sunday's Ride, Post 1976 in Annandale, Va., will host a BBQ dinner that will include three bands. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Missing In America Project, which locates, identifies and inters the unclaimed remains of forgotten veterans.
