It’s written in the earth
That love alone is yours.
It’s written in the earth,
Love must not go to wars.
It’s written in the earth,
That leaves and flowers fade.
It’s written in the earth,
That seas and mountains prayed.

That babies cried as fathers died
In wars they never made,
It’s written in the earth,
And ev’ry thing is weighed.

It’s written in the earth,
That sunshine follows rain.
It’s written in the earth,
That sorrow comes again,
That wars will ever roam.
It’s written in the earth,
While far away from home.

But, God’s iron pen
Writes for us men,
Engraved on girl and boy
What’s written in the earth,
Let nothing here destroy.

It’s written in the earth,
That rivers at times flow,
It’s written in the earth
To war we always go.
The rivers at times dry,
It’s written in the earth,
We go to war to die
It seems that’s all it’s worth.

Yet children play
As mothers say,
“Be careful, you are mine”
It's written in the earth,
With a finger that's devine.

In memory of fallen classmates, WWII
