Information on the 103rd National Convention in Milwaukee 

The American Legion is hosting its 103rd National Convention in Milwaukee, Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Attendees will participate in commission meetings, workshops and training sessions, as well as hear from distinguished guests, see award presentations and elect a new national commander.

Live stream coverage

The following events will be streamed live on The American Legion National Headquarters Facebook page and YouTube page. All times listed are Central, and are tentative and/or subject to change.

• National Color Guard Contest – Friday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m.

• National Concert Band Contest – Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m.

• Patriotic Memorial Service – Sunday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m.  

• Convention General Sessions – Tuesday, Aug. 30, Wednesday, Aug. 31, and Thursday, Sept. 1, starting at 8:30 a.m.

During the convention general sessions, there will be several distinguished guests and presenters on stage. A few include: opening remarks by Paralympian Rob Jones; VA Secretary Denis McDonough; Legion Distinguished Service Medal recipient Phil Roe; Vietnam War Medal of Honor recipient Robert M. Patterson; Global War On Terrorism Memorial Foundation CEO and President Michael Rodriquez; Rudd Institute for Veteran and Military Suicide Prevention; and Ganassi Racing group. Other presentations include membership awards, Legacy Run donations, Fourth Estate Awards, National Firefighter of the Year award, National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year award, and more.

General sessions of the 50th SAL National Convention will also be streamed on the SAL Facebook page. Those sessions are scheduled to begin at noon CDT on Friday, Aug. 26; 8 a.m. CDT on Saturday, Aug. 27; and 8 a.m. CDT on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Legion Family service project at the Milwaukee War Memorial Center – Friday, Aug. 26

Legion Family Day at Milwaukee Oktoberfest – Sunday, Aug. 28 from 1-4 p.m. or 5-9 p.m.

• Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates at American Family Field – Monday, Aug. 29 at 7:10 p.m. Purchase tickets online.

2022 national convention app

The American Legion’s National Convention mobile app is also available for download, free of charge, from the Apple Store or Google Play. The app includes maps, information for meeting times, the floor agenda, a guide to Milwaukee and more. The app will continue to be updated with information, news headlines and alerts throughout the convention.
