Centennial Spotlight: Iowa Post 27

Edward H. Bitzer American Legion Post 27 in Muscatine, Iowa, brought back to life a piece of history that’s more than 70 years old – its parade locomotive. It took post members nearly two years to restore the vehicle due to rust and deterioration from sitting outside for about 10 years.

The locomotive rolled down the streets of Muscatine last year for the annual Fourth of July parade with 10 World War II veterans sitting in the back. The photo was featured in the Muscatine Journal and taken by Beth Van Zandt.
