Operation Comfort Warriors. During the 2017 Legacy Run, the American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) program donated four high-definition televisions, games and exercise equipment to the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System, and a donation was granted to the Kansas Soldiers’ Home in Fort Dodge, Kan. Meanwhile, during the 99th National Convention in Reno, Nev., OCW provided entertainment, meals and outdoor activities to three wounded veterans and their caregivers. For example, one wounded veteran and his caregiver experienced a 40-minute glider flight over Lake Tahoe while another enjoyed a four-hour horseback ride along the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  www.legion.org/ocw

Blood drive. During The American Legion’s national convention, 57 Legion Family members donated blood, which resulted in the collection of 47 units. This will save 122 lives.

Legacy Run. The American Legion Riders raised $555,000 for the Legion’s Legacy Scholarship Fund during the 1,400-mile Legacy Run from Dodge City, Kan., to Reno, Nev., home of the 99th National Convention. Another $667,000 was donated on the convention floor, bringing this year’s Legacy Run total to a ride record of $1,224,653. This is the fourth straight year the Legacy Run has raised more than $1 million.  www.legion.org/riders
  
The American Legion Department of Minnesota led the way, donating $200,000. Other top department donations were the Departments of Missouri ($78,241), Wisconsin ($67,627), South Carolina ($67,056) and Ohio ($50,000).
