Dispatch going digital only

It was announced in the October issue of the Dispatch that effective January 2023, The American Legion Dispatch goes to a digital-only format. This opportunity will reach more officers and leaders of the organization more frequently with a greater portfolio of resources.

The printed Dispatch has been mailed only to post adjutants, department leadership and district commanders. This is all changing to provide a robust e-newsletter and web landing page (legion.org/dispatch) that will provide all officers of The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of The American Legion with a greater portfolio of resources and tools that will inform, educate and engage.

The last printed version of Dispatch will be the December 2022 issue.

The Digital Dispatch currently has more than 30,000 subscribers and growing. With the digital newsletter, you receive American Legion membership, training, promotions and more right in your email inbox.

For more information on the digital format, here are some questions and answers.

Question: Why is The American Legion no longer going to print and mail the Dispatch?

Answer: The digital format also allows American Legion Family members to receive information on such topics as membership recruitment and retention, program delivery and guidance for officers at every level. The printed publication has about half the circulation of the digital version. The ability to go fully digital expands the audience reach to ensure that more officers have access to information they need. It also offers the ability to deliver important information in a more timely manner.

Question: Will the Digital Dispatch still have the same kinds of stories and photos?

Answer: An emailed Digital Dispatch is now sent monthly to subscribers, featuring a roundup of top headlines with clickable links to the stories that are housed on the Dispatch landing page, legion.org/dispatch. This will be the standard format moving forward with enhanced features now in development. The Digital Dispatch is free of charge for anyone who registers to receive it.

Question: How do I sign up for the Digital Dispatch?

Answer: Go to legion.org/newsletters and click on Digital Dispatch. You will be directed to sign in to your MyLegion.org account. Then you will opt in to receive the Digital Dispatch.

Question: How will I receive the online edition of the Dispatch?

Answer: You will receive an email alerting you that new Dispatch material is ready to read on the legion.org/dispatch landing page. The e-newsletter will function the same way that the weekly Monday Briefing, Commander’s Message and American Legion Online Update e-newsletter does, providing a roundup of headlines with clickable links to the actual stories.

Question: How often will the Digital Dispatch come out?

Answer: The Digital Dispatch will come out at least twice a month.
