AffordableColleges.com now offers a financial aid resource for veterans as well as active duty military servicemembers. While many opportunities are specific to a particular military branch or terms of service/operations, other military scholarships for veterans and active duty servicemembers are available across all five military branches.
Rhode Island National Guard State Tuition Assistance Program (STAP)
Covers up to five (5) tuition free classes per FALL and/or SPRING semesters, not to exceed 12 credits per semester. Previously paid funds cannot be reimbursed. Please submit your RING Form STA 30-3 (Revised 1 Oct 02) application to the education office after you register for your courses. STAP can be used in conjunction with Montgomery GI Bill.
Eligibility: This program is available to all Army and Air National Guard service members (enlisted and officer) who are pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, Masters Degree, or certification from Community College of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and University of Rhode Island
Rhode Island National Guard State Tuition Exemption program (STEP)
Covers one (1) tuition free course per SUMMER semester, not to exceed two (2) courses a year. STEP can only be used based on seat availability. You must get a STEP certificate from the Education Office before registering for your class. STEP can be used with Montgomery GI Bill. Four free per enlistment, the member can get four more free for every year he/she extend his/her enlistment.

Rhode Island National Guard State Tuition Exemption Program
The State Tuition Exemption Program provides 1 free course per semester at the Community College of Rhode Island, University of Rhode Island, or the Rhode Island College.
Eligibility: National Guard service member must be working towards an Associates or Baccalaureate degree.
