Richard Hauzer, a Vietnam War veteran, received his Amateur Radio Technician License on Oct. 21, 2014. Richard resides at the Ohio Veterans Home (OVH) in Sandusky, Ohio, and prior to receiving his license spent months studying the elements of FCC-Part 97, radio wave propagation and proper operating procedures. With his license, Richard obtained the capability to communicate with other amateur radio operators across the globe. Richard is a member of American Legion Post 211 in Avon Lake, Ohio, and intends to advance to his General License.
At the suggestion of Dan Dillon, the OVH Amateur Radio Group was formed in September 2014. To date, approximately 18 members attend weekly meetings at OVH and participate in activities connected to the amateur radio world. In an emergency situation, this group may assist in providing communications to the community.
