Item: Memorial Day Ceremonies
For nearly 150 years, Americans have gathered in late spring to honor the sacrifice of those who have given their lives in service to our country. What began with dozens of informal commemorations of those killed in the Civil War has grown to become one of the nation’s most solemn and hallowed holidays. Many American Legion posts will host ceremonies in their community, or be part of a larger commemoration in their city or town. Check with your post’s leadership or look for listings in your local newspapers for these events and, as you are able, take a few minutes of your time to participate in honoring America’s fallen on Monday, May 28, 2018.

Item: The “Birthday” of our Flag is June 14
The President of the United States is requested to issue each year a proclamation to call on government officials in the U.S. to display the flag of the United States on all government buildings on Flag Day; and to urge U.S. residents to observe Flag Day as the anniversary of the adoption on June 14, 1777, by the Continental Congress of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.
