Year 3, Week 28
Oct 9, 2019

The K5TAL Net on 80 meters was opened at 6:30 pm (23:30) on 3.829 mhz and had 16 check-ins. Band conditions on 3.829 were great! EchoLink was in operation and had 1 check-in. D-Star was on REF58B but had no check-ins. 1 check-in via SWL/email. It pays to be patient and let the bands come in.

Announcement:
Boy Scouts of America’s Jamboree On The Air read verbatim from Oct Net Announcements. Also, ARRL Day In The Park, Oct 19, Post 1992, Gautier, MS, and the CQ article on Post 46, Danville, KY.

Thursdays at 7 pm CST, K5TAL hosts an all-digital net via a service called Quadnet Array (www.openquad.net). This service allows any form of digital voice to be routed so DMR users can hear D-Star and C4FM Fusion, D-Star can hear everyone, as can C4FM users. It also allows DV Dongle users to communicate likewise. This additional net will allow any licensed ham of any license class to join in on our weekly roundtable discussions. The net is now listed on the www.openquad.net website. If you have questions you can email me,KA5DON@arrl.net, and I will do what I can to answer them. On the openquad.net web page (listed above) the Reflectors and Talkgroups for D-Star, DMR, and Yaesu C4FM System Fusion are listed. Once you connect to any one of them, you are connected to all Digital Voice Users. Simple as that. My radio is on 24/7 connected to the Atlanta Reflector. Give me a call to test it out. I will be using a free logging program called NetLogger that can be downloaded from netlogger.com. On Thursday before net I will start the program and you should be able to select K5TAL from the net list. You can see the list, and know who is up next. It also has an “Almost Instant Messaging” feature you can type a message to all. Don’t forget: you can listen to the HF 80 meter by going to www.n4dkd.com and enter the frequency and LSB. If you have an Apple device, there is a box to the right to enable audio for IOS.

Location for all net times was discussed and direction to www.legion.org/hamradio was provided.
