Veterans History Project nearing milestone

In its 15th year, the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project (VHP) - which seeks to gather oral history recordings, photos, letters and more from veterans of all conflicts - has topped 96,000 remembrances and hopes to breach the 100,000 mark by the end of this year.

VHP Director Bob Patrick told The Associated Press that more than half of the materials comes from World War II veterans, but everything from Korea to Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan is represented.

More than 300 entries on the collection's website have some sort of American Legion connection. The Legion is a Founding Partner of the VHP and has long encouraged involvement by Legion family members, whether through the VA Volunteer Services program, post events, or individual, one-on-one interviews. The VHP website offers tips and materials for conducting oral history interviews of veterans for inclusion.
