A Republican takeover of the Senate and Washington will continue to plod along.

Submitted by Joseph Skenesky (not verified) : Oct 30, 2014 4:13pm

What he said. The party that controls the Senate will have more power, but the Democrats will do the same thing the Republicans did while the Democrats were in power- try to obstruct anything they do. Sometimes it will be because of ideological differences and genuinely trying to stop legislation they legitimately oppose, but most of the time it will be because if you can stop the other party from accomplishing anything while in office, then you can defame them for not getting anything done. It worked for the right, now the left's going to take their turn at it. Thanks to the short memory of the voting public, America will keep falling for this for some time.

The people with the most to lose are the veteran's who have gambled their lives to help this country. Many veteran's do not vote. What a shame we are willing to accept the less than poor Congress who gives us nothing while continuing to take our tax dollars for their own use. They receive 3% raise for doing nothing while creating laws that give us a slap on the face. Get out to vote to help yourselves.

I don't understand a referendum vote on the white house when there has been congressional opposition to this president from day one of his administration. just like Nancy Reagan said about drugs,"
just say no" congress has obeyed.

The results of Tuesday's election will determine whether our country will continue or perish. Government needs to plod. In session does not mean pass law after law to burden the citizens. Congress, in particular, needs to embrace its mission to watch the purse and keep a boot on the throat of the bloated, runaway Executive Branch.

Submitted by Robert Cancellieri (not verified) : Oct 30, 2014 6:28pm

God Bless you Robert, finally someone understands. Gridlock is good for this evil government. We don't need any more laws in fact it would be a good time to eliminate more than half of the ones that they have already passed. Eliminate abortion if you really want to save lives to the tune of over one million a year just in the U.

Every time a law or rule is passed, you lose a freedom. There are way too many "Job Justification" laws and rules passed. The less that they are able to do in D.C. the more we can do without their help.

The results will prove 1%ers and their money can fool enough of the people with their lies to buy the election and the rest of us will be the losers as it has been since the day when Reagan began with his trickle down economics which has absolutely failed the working class Americans.

Submitted by Donald Ford (not verified) : Oct 30, 2014 7:16pm

I totally disagree, sir. Reagan was the best President we have had in my 71 years, and I heartily wish we had him back! And if you want to discuss "1%ers", lets talk about the Nazi, George Soros. He is the one pulling Obama's puppet strings. Both of them are pure evil.

Submitted by Cora (not verified) : Oct 31, 2014 9:54am

Good shot Cora. We could use a desperately needed dose of Reaganomics if we are ever to get out of this financial downturn which I doubt we ever will at this point.

The Reagan solution was called Supply Side Economics. It had four objectives.
1) Budget reform
2) Regulatory relief
3) Tax cuts
4) Restoration of a stable currency

Only the tax cuts and a bit of regulatory relief were implemented. Yet with only partial implementation of a partial solution (supply side economics could only be classed as "a good start") the economy surged, tax revenues increased, and unemployment declined. Imagine what would have happened if the entire agenda could have been put in place!

So our "intelligent" leaders have since scrapped the couple things that DID work in favor of the things that got us into the economic mess in the first place. And now we have a dollar that has depreciated 97% since 1913 and is still slipping, businesses fleeing the country because of regulation, half the population being subsidized by the other half, and debt gone crazy.

I totally agree. I'm 87 years old and clearly recall the electronic billboard in NYC which displayed in realtime the blinding speed of the national debt escalating under Reagonomics. The result was a $1.5 trillion increase in debt, primarily for the phony "Star Wars" technology (an expensive bluff in the US/Russian standoff) and to pay for the huge tax cuts for the one percenters. Meanwhile, the payroll taxes for the rest of us increased significantly. The mountain of debt did not begin to shrink until Clinton took office, and it turned into a surplus -- which quickly vanished when Bush II's crowd took over.

When I wrote that I agree, I meant my agreement to be with Don Ford's post.

Submitted by Richard Hofacker (not verified) : Oct 31, 2014 6:02pm

The debt did increase under Reagan by about $1.4 trillion. This is because he failed to follow through on cutting government spending and establishing a sound money system.

Bush I undid much of what Reagan accomplished and increased the debt $1.55 trillion in just 4 years. A needless war did not help.

Contrary to popular belief, the national debt INCREASED EVERY YEAR during the Clinton years. The total debt increased $1.4 trillion during his terms. The PUBLIC portion of total debt did decrease during select years, but it came at a cost. Raiding of trust funds, especially Social Security, artificially helped to bring total debt down. The piper has yet to be paid on this shell game.

Bush II managed to increase to9tal debt by a whopping $6.1 trillion. A number of senseless wars sure helped on that.

And that brings us to the current administration. Five years of budgets have thus far yielded an increase of $5.86 trillion and we still have 3 budget years to go.

There is PLENTY of blame to go around. That is because basically BOTH parties are run by the SAME PEOPLE!

I don't know what bracket you are in, but I for one am definitely NOT anywhere near the one per centers. And I can also definitely say that my economic situation went from dire at the beginning of the Reagan years to relatively comfortable at the end. I've been sinking back to dire ever since.

And for what it's worth, that "phoney" Star Wars technology you think so little of is currently being perfected by the Chinese.

Everyone complains that government is broken. As a result on Tuesday:
1) People will for the most part vote the status quo.
2) Some politicians will be replaced by "the other guy".
3) The "other guy" won't be all that different than the one he/she replaces.
4) Government will continue to plod along, doing the same stuff it has been doing that it shouldn't and not doing the stuff it should.
5) Barry, not having the elections to worry about anymore, can go on an executive order spree.
6) Our mailboxes will be less cluttered, our phones will quiet down, th3e scenery will improve, and we will be able to watch our favorite programs in peace... at least until either the next election or the collapse of order in the USA, whichever comes first.

Please, everyone get out and vote even though you do not like either candidate or party. Vote for the person or party that you think will do the least damage to the country. Until enough people realize that a third party may be a challenge to the two party system, this is the only viable alternative.

Submitted by John S. (not verified) : Oct 31, 2014 7:58am

I vote. For one thing, there are usually ballot issues that require a yes/no vote. Second, there are often LOCAL elections which are NON-PARTISAN and one can legitimately choose a candidate best qualified. Once in awhile there may be a candidate who may have a party label but not a party attitude.... rare but they do exist. Then there are write-ins.

I seldom cast a vote for a winning candidate. But I have made my choice. If my candidate loses because of fraud, rigged elections, lack of big money support... THAT ISN'T ON ME!

If I throw up my hands and never bother to vote, the outcome IS on me because I didn't even try.

So I agree. GET OUT AND VOTE! Just be realistic in the outcome. Once in a while you might get lucky, but that isn't going to happen if you stay home.

If the 1%ers win this election we will all thank our lucky stars we were able to receive a whopping 1.7 percent raise in Social Security and or in VA disability pay. The 1%ers want their own money and your money. They do not want to pay their fair share of taxes. They want you to pay for their taxes. Many major corporations such as General Electric pay no taxes into the treasury. If you have the balls to check this information then go to the internet to check. In your computers browser type in, "Company's that pay no income tax". These companies pay no tax because the "Congress made laws" to make it legal to not pay taxes. Presidents do not make the laws and we continue to elect congress people who continue to screw us. Veteran's, we are the ones who suffer. Get off your butts and go vote.

Has anyone noticed that there are only two people to vote for? We do not get to choose who those two people are. The process is rigged by the biggest spenders. The average American has no say in who will govern this country other than a choice between two evils.

Submitted by WBert (not verified) : Oct 31, 2014 12:58pm

There is always the write-in. You do have a choice. A write-in admittedly has a very slim chance, but that chance drops when you don't bother.

What matters isn't whether you win or lose, it is all about whether or not you even try.

It will not make any difference, The American people bitch about our government all the time. How they do not do a good job and spend to much money. BUT the AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL NOT GET RID OF THE FOOLS THEY KEEP RELECTING BACK IN TO OFFICE.

Bingo!

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." - John Adams

Look around you. Generally speaking, are we a moral and religious people? If you answer "Generally, NO!", then you can understand why government is broken.

Despite that, there are still a lot of good, sensible, God-fearing people around. Don't give up, even if it seems hopeless. Remember the movie "The Longest Day?" British Major John Howard remembers his orders, "Hold until relieved."

Should we do any less?

Voter "Apathy" over the years has put us in a "State of Quandry"! If we all exercised the "Right to Vote" it is possible sometimes to change the direction of the Legislative and Executive branches of government. It is time for a 3rd or 4th Party to come forward with "Sensible" and Real-Time issues that affect all Americans. Our elected politicians are "Part-Time" federal employees who reap the benefits that the average American can only "dream" about! Take away their pensions for life, free healthcare, pay into Social Security and Congress shall make "NO" law that benefits members of Congress or the Executive Branch of our government!

Republican's did take the Senate and held the House. I believe this had a lot to do with how Americans fell about both the White House's lawlessness and lack of interest in protecting our sovereignty through out of control fiscal irresponsibility, border control and foreign policy.
I also speculate that a Republican controlled Congress will make a lot of noise about 'getting' Obama, fixing O'Care, say what we want to hear, send a stack of upheld Bills by Reid to the President to be vetoed and in the end accomplish and implement precious little useful action.
I just hope the Repub's find someone to beat Hillary in 2016.

Submitted by John Newman (not verified) : Nov 5, 2014 2:36pm

Hillary already lost 2016. Most of the candidates she stumpe for lost. She didn't even win in her own home state. Now, Congress needs to use the power of the purse to keep Mr. Obama in line.

Submitted by H.S. (not verified) : Nov 5, 2014 6:33pm

With the "Changing of the Guard" in the Senate, we'll see if the Republicans are better than their counterparts, the Democrats! Sen. Harry Reid(D)NV was and is by far the reason the Democrats lost the Senate. In a perfect world, compromise is the name of the game in order to pass meaningful legislation. For the last 6 years with Harry Reid as Senate Majority leader and Nancy Pelosi as a Past Majority Leader; and now Minority Leader in the House, there idea of legislation was: Pass it so we can find out what is really in the bills. If California and Nevada continue to send these abysmal people to Washington this is why politics is broken!
