Methinks it is "Much Ado About Nothing". When America's haters can smear anything they want on the flag or burn it without fear of punishment, why would anyone get upset because a baby was wrapped in one. Maybe that was the only "Blanket" handy so get over it already.

Amen brother !! I agree 100%, you are absolutely correct. ...... I wonder what flag hater starter the flack. I do know that flag etiquette
forbids doing such things, but not too many people listen to that anymore. It's on shirts, coats, heck it's even on skivvies.Nothing much is said about that.

I believe the sailor is proud of his country, and proud of his baby! It was in a moment of pride and love that he wrapped one around the other! I am an 87 year old veteran, that is proud of them both!

I agree with ya Mo 1, even saw it on a "G " string. had to look close but it was red white and blue! Had I thought of it when my boys were born in the 70's, I would have snapped a shot or two of them wrapped in the flag as well....

So true is your statement. You can buy the flag to cover your butt but you can't wrap a baby in it. They can burn it and walk on it with out being punished but you as a veteran can't wrap your baby in it. It used to be that the majority was the ones that made the rules here in America but now the minority groups are telling us what we can do and what movies we can see on school campuse. Maybe we should pass a law that says unless you have served this country you can't make rules about this country

Total agreement. This is obviously a sailor showing his pride and love for two very important things in his life!!!

I am more concerned about disrespect by burning of our flag by hate groups and by schools removing the flag because someone might be offended even though the offended individuals are enjoying all the rights and privileges our
country provides to them.

Submitted by Florence M (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 4:46pm

I totally agree, Florence. The soldier meant no disrespect when that picture was taken, in fact I believe he was demonstrating just what the OLD Glory was being presented for, which was his child was being protected by our country's greatest symbol.

Submitted by Don W (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 6:29pm

I agree this is what the flag represents protecting and cuddle our children.

In my younger days I was taught that the flag was not to be used as an article of clothing, but the last several generations have forsaken all the old rules and traditions. Now anything that you want to do is OK, and that's the main reason this country is headed down the drain. Too many RIGHTS now, so nobody does anything wrong.

Submitted by Preston J (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 5:08pm

Can't agree that our Country is "headed down the drain" but I've been hearin' it since I was a kid and now I'm seventy. We're still upright and above ground. The fact that old rules and traditions have been forsaken, however, is obvious. "March Madness" is underway. Watch the start of any game and see how many student/athletes salute during the National Anthem. It's the same at any sports event, professional or amateur/collegiate. It's our responsibility to inform the offenders that we are unhappy. Being proud to wrap a baby in a U.S. Flag shows a lot more respect and patriotism than that displayed by college athletes who have opportunities not seen by the average young American.

Truly I think it was a beautiful sight. Almost like dedicating your child to a Country that would always cherish it's life and liberty. Oh, If only that would be true.

A true show of patriotism. The child is not wearing the flag like clothing. The father is showing the protection that he is providing for his child, me, you and our entire nation. I am going to take pictures of all my grandchildren swaddled in the American flag.

Submitted by Gary Dettman (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 5:36pm

I've seen a lot of disrespect for our flag, in various ways, however I still believe it's wrong to use as a garment, drapery, etc

Submitted by Fred 1945 (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 5:42pm

There many Americans who respect the American flag and what it stands for. However not everyone is farmiliar with the regulation governing how our flag is to be respected and the proper used and the display of same. I personally doubt the the person taking the picture was doing so ment any disrespect for our flag and what is stands for. God Bless America.

Submitted by Alex Mac (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 5:55pm

Think about it, our president or some associate of is started this to get our minds off of all the damage he is doing to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The government started letting people use the flag as clothing to show their support for the US some 30 years ago, think about it.

How about when sweaty athletes wrap themselves in the American flag following Olympic events? Doesn't that seem worse than this? Where is the outrage on that?

Submitted by Rick V (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 7:10pm

I don't like that at all.

Submitted by Neg (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 7:26pm

Did not see the photo. I think this Country has a lot more pressing problems. But, having said that. Any use like this would be a violation of U.S. Flag Code. I do believe.

Submitted by Ron49 (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 8:02pm

Considering two things: one, that the Flag Code prohibits use of the flag as a garment and, two, that America haters routinely defile the flag, do those two wrongs add up to make a right?

That said, of all the vile things in this world that a child might be swaddled in, our United States flag is not one of them. Further, in funeral rites for veterans we cover their remains with our flag, so I don't have a problem with a serving sailor welcoming into this world his and his wife's American newborn by covering their infant with our flag.

Submitted by Jordynne Olivia Lobo (not verified) : Mar 19, 2015 9:35pm

It is my belief and feelings that this is a perfect picture for what the flag and country should be standing up for. I just want to hang my head in disbelief when some yo-yo is dancing around with the flag as a cape or what-ever. I agree with several of the above entries, we have a lot of very big issues to deal with and this is not one of them.

Remain a Prisoner for years and finally see that beautiful flag, then say its WRONG. Coming into and leaving this world covered in that flag is what makes that flag Stronger than life.

Submitted by CM Turlington (not verified) : Mar 20, 2015 4:11am

It's #2 and #3. While I share the general sentiment that our flag should be handled with the utmost reverence, I can't take seriously any suggestion that the photo in question is in any way disrespectful of it. Some people are just looking for reasons to be outraged for its own sake.

This is a very good sign of respect. It signifies our devotion to our freedoms. It is better than the disrespect that Obama has been giving it since his election.

What could be more patriotic? A simple picture of the past, current and future of our Nation! The Flag, our grandfathers, fathers and we have fought for over 239 years,A Sailor who has volunteered to serve and protect our Nation, (Current), and a baby, the future generation who we hope will carry on the duty of keeping this blessed nation free. Simply one of the best photos I have seen in many years. I love it so, it is my wallpaper!

I believe that the photographer was trying to show in a patriotic and poetic way how our country as a whole and our armed forces in particular are dedicated to the protection and defense of the innocent. Therefore, I support the photographer in his/her desire.

This is most definitely against the flag code. However. since our Supreme court has ruled that burning the flag is acceptable as freedom of speech I figure that we can wrap a baby in the flag and call it peace.

None of this offends me at all. I know that the freedom we have here in the USA allows all to express themselves. I agree, but I am saddened when I see someone flying a flag of ANOTHER country within the USA---how ignorant and insulting some are!! The only time another flag should be flown here is in an international event where other Nations are competing. In Calif. I see people displaying other flags--all the time---we need to export those ignoramuses---they just do not enough brain connections to understand basic respect for others.

I would offer my observation for you to consider. The question is not whether the person in these picture loves America, our flag, or is patriotic . . . it is obvious that someone that would drape a child in the flag is making a statement that they love this country and what it stands for . . . it is not even the code . . . it goes back further than that. When this nation was founded, it was founded with a new flag . . . a separation from our past. The flag signified conquest and defeat as it was raised or lowered based upon success or failure . . . it signified hope in something better than what we had - hope in an ideal that we could become and had become something better. It led men into battle and if it started to fall other men gave their life to hold it up so that it wouldn't because if it did, the flag hitting the ground signified defeat. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The real question you have to ask yourself is would the founding fathers and the people of colonial America that died to create this country be okay with this picture? when you answer that question, you will have your answer

I think what was being presented is that the Baby should not worry because he/she was protected with the full might of this great United States of America. In other words; "Sleep well little babe the United States Military with all its might has you under our protection."

Submitted by Vince Mento (not verified) : Mar 23, 2015 2:14pm

I think the photo shows not only justice, freedom, courage, but also protection of future generations. I think the flag supporting the baby (future) and the soldier (present) suporting the flag is a great icon for our future. This shows past, present and future.

It is against the (flag code) but so is what is done at any sporting event. We seem to feel this type of activity is good without controversy. When we pay our military the same as our athletes, and our politicians, then we can criticize how they feel about what they value!! I say get your heart in this country or get you A#### out of it. A veteran and proud of it!!
