We need to start sinking these vessels and also shooting "buzz planes" that antagonize us down.

Locally, It must not have seemed too important as I did not read about it in our local newspaper (San Diego being a Navy town), nor hear it mentioned on local T.V. and PBS.

Nothing here in the paper or TV here either, or did I miss it?

This was reported on both CNN and FOX.

I'd go with "Nothing to see, move along". I'm not normally this way but I'm so concerned and disappointed in how our President seems to be bowing to Iran's every need and wish. Today I want to say I can't wait for one of our Naval Hero Captians to blow these guys out of the water for doing this and to heck with it. I really don't believe Iran will do anything directly. They will however release their Dogs, Hezbollah and others so there's that anyway.

No big deal if none of our guys was hurt. I experienced the Cubans and the Iranians doing much worse during the Cold War, and all we did was to avoid an incident and the C.O. reported it for the dips to handle it from there. Sea Games...Not War Games. No big deal.

Why is a US Destroyer in that area? Would we be happy with Iranian warships lurking near the coast of the US?
I can see US commercial ships in that area but destroyers. Why are we intimidating them?

I agree with you LM. We did nothing when Israel attacked the USS Liberty, almost sinking it & all aboard. This is a non event that we started. We have no business over there. If you idiots want more stupid no win wars, vote Hillary and you'll get them.

Because these Straights are international waters that are vital to world shipping and to us strategically. We need to keep them open and deter any intimidation such as this.

Hostile action on the high seas is piracy, demand and receive respect!

Didn't even hear about it! When did it happen?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) : Aug 25, 2016 5:11pm

Should have set the search and rescue detail AS soon as Iran reported some of there boats were missing

Submitted by John Jak (not verified) : Aug 25, 2016 5:23pm

They should have been blown out of the water after ignoring a warning shot.@

Iranians trying to intimidate or flex their muscles. 4 warning shots sent them on their way. Congrats to the USN for not overreacting. We could always send our "Commander in Chief", over to apologize.

Submitted by LL'49 (not verified) : Aug 25, 2016 6:37pm

He's the "Apologizer in Chief". But he might not want to go. Do they have a golf course?

Submitted by Cora (not verified) : Aug 26, 2016 12:31pm

They made the first move by shooting first it is up the Navy as to what to do
but They should shoot back and sink and destroy them.

Set a minimum approach with comm's; then fire for effect at the farthest one! If they keep on course, sink in order and send an apology!

I would say draw a line but that has not worked well for this administration so our military should react with great malice and stop these over acts

Submitted by Jumpsbilly (not verified) : Aug 26, 2016 9:21am

Obama can't draw a line - he lost his red crayon.

Submitted by Cora (not verified) : Aug 26, 2016 12:30pm

As I remember there were no warning shots--just radio comm.and warning whistles. I'd have given warning shots and an ultimatum about minimum range of their approach and if they breached it, fire for effect! Don't want another USS Cole i ncident!

we dont need to sink any vessel that does not put our people in harms way. they realize our resolve and want to test us at every turn. GPS documentation can be used to determine where all the players were. bring it to united nations as to sanctions. We can always do more later.... easily....by the way ...we are at war , tho congress wont say so (just like vietnam , my war)ISIS isil is the real enemy of all of us . Iran included , somehow get it through to them...

I was in the Korean War aboard the USS Samuel N. Moore,we exchanged fire with North Koreans in Wanson Harbor,we took three minor hits four wounded. We did three off and on years doing fire control assignments up & down the north Korean Peninsula.Enjoyed the four years of service MJ.

They are testing like they when one of those small boats rammed the USS Stark, exploding killing some it's crew and damaged the Stark so bad it had to go back to the states for repairs. They tested us and we failed. They should not allow them to do it again. Blow them out of the water.

If anyone fires upon a US vessel or aircraft, they should be dispatched immediately. That will send a clear message that we are not to be toyed with.

We paid them $1.7 billion keeping our side of the ill-conceived Iran deal and this behavior is what we get in return? Have we been allowed to inspect their nuke facilities yet, as promised? I suspect NOT!
