Should voters be allowed to cast ballots through the mail in 2020?

View more polls

Regardless of the pandemic, there is nothing wrong with encouraging every registered voter to cast their ballot in whatever way best works for them. Mail-in voting has proven to be a very effective way to exercise your voting rights. We need more voters to vote, not fewer. Mail-in voter works. Stop the political pandering.

You are so correct. Only the Trump cult compose of Non educated voters
are against it. Thru the voting process is has been proved of the importance and correct way to do it. And it has not proven of Froud.
Mr Trump has mail voted all the time that has been available.

You are so incorrect! Only people who want to throw away our traditions and purposely foul an election want mail in voting. The Washington Democrats are very afraid that the majority of Americans would never vote for a socialist agenda and single party government. So these officials, not President Trump, want to have mail in voting, specifically to foul this election. Most people are aware that the USPS has been failing for the past 40 years. If companies like FedEx and UPS hadn't come along to carry some of the load the USPS would have collapsed under that load a long time ago. On their best day the USPS might handle 180+ million pieces of first class mail. That's not counting all of the other bulk mail. How much of that mail actually gets to the wrong person or lost is a much larger percentage than most people realize. So, with 180+ million pieces in process and another 180+ million pieces sent as votes what will happen to the system. Facts are facts!

The present day Washington Democrats know that mail in voting will fail or at least delay a conclusion of the election so, they will try and invoke the 12th Amendment. They want total control and would devastate the American people and the American way of life to get it!

Here's what happens if they manage to foul the election:
If no candidate receives a majority of the electoral vote (at least 270), the President is determined by the rules outlined by the Twelfth Amendment. Specifically, the selection of President would then be decided by a contingent election in a ballot of the House of Representatives.

Now, do you smell a rat. If the process fails the popular vote, the electoral can't conclude properly either.

Voting is one of an Americans most valuable rights and it can be accomplished by Absentee ballot mail in service very secure and vetted. To allow mail in voting without vetting is a sure fire way to destroy our right to vote and remove our option as a free nation to choose the President of the United States! No mail-in voting!

Trump is clearly afraid of losing big. That is why he put a big donor lackey in charge of the United States Post Office. That lackey is fowling up the works so as to prevent as many mail in ballots as possible from being counted. In the meantime General Russel Honoree shared this afternoon that some of his medications have not arrived via the mail and he is scrambling to get meds locally. Millions of other veterans also receive their VA meds through the mail.

Totally unacceptable and totally unAmerican.

Trump is NOT afraid. He is just pointing out the problems with millions of ballots mailed to who know who. Pigs, cats and dogs have received ballots so far. Who knows how many illegal aliens have ballots in hand. It just doesn't make sense to mail out ballots and NOT know where or to whom they are going.

Submitted by jweit327 : Aug 13, 2020 6:17pm

This has to be one of the most ridiculous responses to the mail in ballots. States have been doing this forever with no problems. And why wasn't it a problem when Trump ran the first time? Now its a problem because he's behind in the polls and trying to concoct up fake information as anything he spews his base believes. Look at history and facts. What we need to be aware of, is how Trump WILL do everything her can to disrupt the entire post office and mailing and voting system to his favor. Even Trump votes by mail. Quit believing all the hype from this man.

For starts, you must not know the difference between an absentee ballot and "mail in voting"
No problems? Like the 28 million missing votes from 2012-2016?? Or the Postman who got caught throwing a box of absentee ballots in the dumpster? Or those in Florida & Arizona charged for stuffing ballots into the absentee voter boxes? No problems? Yea, right

To decrease the possibility of fraud, the following stipulations must apply:
- Mail in, or absentee, ballot must be requested by the voter.
- The correctly signed & marked ballot must be postmarked, or arrive at the County Supervisor of Elections Office, by COB on Election Day.
- In the event of a missing, or not verifiable, signature, voter must appear in person to correct the discrepancy, for the ballot to be counted.

Shotgunning ballots to registered voters (who moved or are deceased) will most certainly lead to fraud - especially in states which have adopted "ballot harvesting" procedures. Contrary to popular opinion, voter rolls nationwide have not been properly purged in a timely manner.

One way that authoritarians ensure re-election is to control the vote:
1. Control the post office to limit mail and absentee ballots
2. Limit those who can vote. Manipulate the voter lists
3. Create a "red herring" with issues like voting fraud
4. Postpone elections due to "problems"
5. refuse to accept the results.
6. Declare the results fraudulent and throw the vote out
7. Stay in office using federal police and the military

Stop, read our constitution, bill of rights and the amendments. Specifically read the 12th amendment!

Do you really think President Trump wants the House to select the next President? Who would Nancy choose, not elect, choose? Stop watching CNN and MSNBC and get some truth in your facts. You may not like President Trump, the man, that's your right. However, look at his list of accomplishments for the everyday American and Veteran!

We in Colorado have used mail in voting since 2013 at least. As a purple state both parties have found it to work well. We have used it so long with so few problems only a Post Office screwup could cause a problem but many of us use the now plentiful drop off boxes to deposit our ballots. Not even the Post Office can screw up that half of the puzzle.

Absentee ballots sent at the request of the voter is fine. Mass mailing ballots is problematic. Both parties used to frown on mass mailing ballots because it brought the integrity of the election into question. Since 2016 the Democratic party has reversed their stance. Wonder why? Desperation.

Since passports, social security cards, voter register cards, etc. are sent through the mail, why not vote ballots? This is just another ploy of Trump in his bid for reelection. No way with his continued false statements on Covid 19 screw ups is he going to win reelection!

Submitted by blackhawkokla : Aug 13, 2020 6:08pm

Absentee mail in is ok. The voter must request the ballot. Ballots mailed out to dogs, cats, pigs and illegal aliens have no place in our election system. Personally I'll go to the polls and vote legally. Their is just not enough time to verify millions of mail in votes expected. Politics aside I would like to know that the elected person is truly valid to hold the office, and it didn't take months and even years to verify the election.

Submitted by jweit327 : Aug 13, 2020 6:11pm

It's not Trump being afraid of losing, nor of the Post Office's ineptness, or undermanning in county clerk offices. It's the tactic of "vote harvesting" as permitted in California and I think a few other places. People go around to those who have asked for a mail-in ballot, and offer to take their ballot to the post office for them. And while chatting about that, they find out how that person leans, or who they voted for, or what campaign sign is in their yard. So if that person votes against the liberal left-wing proclivities of the vote harvester, that ballot somehow does not make it to the USPO. And that, dear veterans, is the crime here.

Absentee voting by mail is already available. It is verifiable, organized, fair, and functional.
Mass mailer ballots are a mistake. Like junk mail in your mailbox, you don't know where it goes. It has no controls, is subjext to easy fraud, and is entirely disorganized. This is what is meant by "mail in" ballots. It is not absent voting.

I believe it's important to differentiate between "mail-in" ballots that are unsolicited mail sent by the state (or the party) and absentee ballots, which must be requested by the voter with certain identifying information on the request as well as on the ballot when it's returned. Mass mailing of unsolicited ballots to undesignated addressees, or those addressees who have passed away, moved away, are unable to vote for reasons of health, etc., are just invitations to unscrupulous people to "stuff" ballot boxes with fake votes.

Trump cult followers parrot his accusations regarding mail in voting. Has there ever been a documented case of "harvesting votes." Most of us rooted in reality remember Trump appointing a commission headed by Kansan Kris Kobach whose charter was to document fraudulent voting. We are still waiting for the results of that and the voters of Kansas have rejected Kobach.

Vote by mail works. It has worked and continues to work across the states to give American citizens the ability to participate in our civic process.

I voted by mail when I was on active duty, and millions of soldiers, sailors, seamen and marines vote by mail each election. Any attempt to keep people from voting is subversive against the United States. The trolls and foreign agents that are flooding this poll with harassing or racists comments should be removed, as this is not in accordance with our charter as an organization.

Get involved in your local elections. Call people and make a difference. And stay safe, legionnaires!

Absentee mail-in voting for service personnel has been ok and those who are disabled. If everyone wears PPE it should be ok. Mail-in voting for all should NOT be allowed. Voting by using the mail should be absolutely forbidden. Absentee voting is a legal permissible means to vote already in existence. Mail in voting is a proven method of illegal ballots being provided!
If you have any doubt if there is any fraud associated with voting by mail, then as recently as this past week look to Wisconsin. The petitions to get Kanye West on the presidential ballot in November were challenged by the Democrats as illegal. They cited numerous petitions were illegally signed by Bernie Sanders, Kanye West, and Mickey Mouse, to name a few!
There are a plethora of legitimate documented examples throughout the United States of the past four decades of fraudulent ballots being cast. Anytime there is an election in Illinois proof emerges that people who have been "dead" for years have repeatedly voted illegally! A recent primary in Michigan discovered tens of thousands of votes not delivered by the USPS. The caucuses in Iowa's Democratic primary this past spring, still haven't resolved what the actual ballot count was.
If you can't make it to your polling place to vote, you can submit an absentee ballot "LEGALLY". If you are sick or have an accident and can't vote on the day of the election, you just don't vote.
Voting in person, proving who you actually are is the only positive way to vote. Any other method to vote is just plan fraud and should never be allowed!!!

Submitted by breachplug : Aug 14, 2020 2:06pm

The caucas in Iowa is not done by mail in voting. It is done in person. Iowa tried a new call in system to turn in the votes placed at the caucas sites. The program was not a good one. And I have voted by absentee ballot for years. There are checks and balances when you vote by mail. I see nothing wrong with sending out ballet REQUEST forms to voters. The county only sends one ballot per person so if you request more than once you only get one. Where I worked ballots were put in tubs ( not sent out to be sorted and brought back) in our office and hand delivered to the proper county office. As letter carriers we take pride in making sure ballots are delivered on time.

We all are in favor of voting, so can we review the difference between “mail-in” voting and “absentee” voting, which is also mailed in! Absentee voting involves a registered voter responding either to a postcard sent out by the Registrar in their district or by contacting the Registrar, and indicating you want to be mailed the ballot, which you, a duly registered voter, fill out and mail in. The proposed “mail in” voting is where stacks of ballots are available in various public locations and anyone can pick up multiple ballots, fill in names of dead people, pets, you name it, and mail them in. The result, a destruction of our election process through endless delays in vetting the multi-millions of ballots, court challenges, and attendant government paralysis.
Conclusion: NO, we do not want “mail-in” voting, we do want to mail in our absentee ballot.

If you can go to the store, doctors office, out to eat, fill you car with gas or walk or drive to a mail box you can go to a voting station and social distance to vote. There is only one reason mail in voting is an issue, it can be corrupted and the recounts and mistakes will completely destroy our election process. If you want to mail in your vote start now and request an absentee ballot, which is prepossessed to verify your legal registration and will verify your vote will be counted. Since you served in the military you know how this works, if you were overseas. If you don't know how it works your local American Legion Post can help. There have already been too many frauds and failures with mail in ballots in the recent primaries. That is fact not fiction. Don't listen to social media, cable and channel news reports, they are way to politically biased by their owners who edit commentary for their talking heads to deliver as captioned blocks of information. Check the facts from your state and your government agencies responsible for validating and identifying voter fraud. Our president, Donald Trump, may seem like a jerk sometimes, like most very successful people, but he loves America and the American people. So, don't use an assumption as an excuse to do something really dumb like mail in voting. Besides, the cost to manage the mail load will be in the multi-millions of dollars in most states and second validating the votes will be impossible regardless of how much money is thrown at the process. I would rather see that money go toward rebuilding our economy by bringing back the mom and pop business that have had to close as well as bringing our troops home.

Proud Colorado resident that has voted by mail since coming home. I voted using this method in a midterm election and in primaries. And, in those elections I have never had a single problem. In fact I wouldn't go back. Who wouldn't want to sip on their coffee and peacefully fill out their ballot at the kitchen table. Then at their leisure, before election day, drop it in their County election box, such as a police station or Clerk and Recorder. But, I guess if you prefer waiting until the day of to budget time on a traditional working day if you're not a retiree. To hop on your readily-available mode transportation. Then try to find a place to park, if applicable. Then wait in line to fill out your ballot. Pandemic or not that's on you. With all that, the only people that would be against mail in voting are people that are fearful of losing. And systematically weakening the postal service in advance to the election is counterproductive. And, only gives credence to the people that believe that you are fearful of losing.

Absentee ballots are controlled ballots and NO ONE has a problem with them. President Trump says they are great. The problem is this year the DNC wants to use "flash" or flooded ballot mailings to every address in America with no controls on them going out or coming back. On top of that the DNC wants to authorize ballot harvesters to travel the precincts with a list of addresses and "help" (wink wink so's your uncle, we will help you complete your ballot) and drop them off at the post office for the people. There is no way in hell that won't incur a huge percentage of fraud. I have used absenteeism voting in past elections - while in the military and 2008 I was recovering from open heart surgery and my wife has MS. But we had to put information from our voter registration card (that is normally checked at our voting place for in person voting) and mail the request with information back in to the county to get our ballots. BIG difference between Absentee ballots and mail in mass mailed ballots sent to addresses rather than voter request. And a HUGE difference in fraud between the to as well.

Submitted by loulon22980 : Aug 15, 2020 7:00pm

there is a big difference between an absentee ballot and the mass mailing of fraud-prone ballots Democrats want. If you want to vote by mail you should have to request it. It's already been proven in the primaries, of the states that used mail-in ballots, the fraud that takes place.

Submitted by 170flyer : Aug 16, 2020 10:21am

The question is somewhat general in that the U.S. mail system would be involved regardless. I am in favor of absentee ballots that our military should used to the maximum. Others that will not be available to in person vote should also use the absentee ballot system, requesting their ballots. That is the one huge difference between the absentee system and mass mailing ballots is that the voter must request the ballot to vote absentee. There is a check and balance control at the County Boards of Election who is allowed to exercise their right to vote. With a mass mailing - - alas no control at all. Do we want a system where a politician is elected by fraud? Bottom line, absentee - - absolutely yes, mass mailing -- No, No a thousand times No.

Let my try to understand this "Mail-in Ballot" proposal. The ballots go out to "all residence" throughout the nation but, only those "legally registered" to vote will use those same ballots lawfully to cast their votes? What could possibly go wrong there? No chance of fraud with a system like that, is there? I'm reminded of the household who recently received a ballot by mail for their cat, which had been dead for 20 years. Also, the Granma, who died a year ago, received her ballot in the mail so the daughter voted for her in her absence, no questions asked. This mail-out ballot to all households without verification of the living status or, current residency of the registered recipient could easily throw the election. Perhaps that's the reason behind it, ya think? That could even result in national suicide.
Even though thousands of service member's absentee ballots are continuously delayed and never counted due to several bureaucratic SNAFUs since the late 1980s, the absentee ballot system is still safer than Mail-out ballots being blindly sent to all residence across the nation. If casting the vote is important enough to an individual then it should also be important enough to the voter to take a moment to request the absentee ballot to cast their legitimate vote. Upon request, only the registered voter receives an absentee ballot. Mail-out ballots go out to everyone-- Registered voter, or not; Legal voters, or not; Citizens, or not; Criminals, or not! It really doesn't matter to the supporters of the "mail-in ballots." One would have to be brain-dead or in a coma not to recognize the reason behind it, and why only one party is supporting this flawed system. Even with the screw-ups against the US Military personnel's votes, absentee ballots are the only safe way to mail in a ballot, and should be the only way to vote by mail.

States that are planning to send out ballots to all registered voters, need to first verify that the voter is still eligible to vote at the assigned address. They also need to have the ability to verify the signature for these mass ballot mailings. Normal absentee requests obviously are dsent to someone who has requested the ballot and is as acceptable as it always has.
