American Legion Post namesake honored with Purple Heart

While researching the history of American Legion Post 28 in Grand Haven, Mich., in preparation for the organization's centennial, Sons of The American Legion member Dr. Chris Petras discovered documentation that showed the post namesake, Charles A. Conklin, was eligible for a Purple Heart. Conklin was the first resident of Grand Haven killed in World War I, and the post honored his sacrifice, naming their post after him when it was chartered. The post hosted a ceremony where Conklin's Purple Heart was presented.
