Out-of-this-world training, shark attacks and TV ‘marathons’

If you haven’t tuned in to the YouTube version of The American Legion’s Tango Alpha Lima podcast, this is the week to check it out.

One of the co-hosts is wearing a suit and tie, which means that another co-host has lost a bet. And the third is ready to hibernate.

But on to slightly more serious matters, Jeff Daly, a Marine Corps veteran, leads off with Space Force and its new immersive tool used for real world — out of this world? — training.

The co-hosts also share their experiences with basic training, the good, bad and the ugly, including shark attacks.

Co-host Army National Guard veteran Ashley Gorbulja-Maldonado recalls her battle with a duffel bag — a “mime stuck in a walnut,” as co-host Mark Seavey describes it.

And once they emerged from basic training, they realized how they all changed for the better. “The Army helped me realize that I could do anything I put my mind to,” she said. “It has helped push and motivate me outside of my comfort zone.”

Stay tuned to learn how Gorbulja-Maldonado spent her “free time,” leaving Daly speechless and having Seavey question why he thinks he served in a different Army.

The trio also praises the national commander’s 100 Miles for Hope, including a participant who has regained fitness and lost more than 20 pounds. Meanwhile, Daly brags about his marathon finishes — Battlestar Galactica, Seinfeld — during the pandemic.

It’s a humorous free-for-all. Check it out by downloading and listening to the podcast, or watch the YouTube version, at legion.org/tangoalphalima.
