'American Legion Magazine' receives top ranking

The American Legion Magazine has retained its title as the “best read” U.S. magazine, according to independent auditor GfK MRI, which compiled the survey of 179 publications.

The annual audit, released in July 2016, showed that Legion Magazine finished first in the two categories surveyed: percentage of subscribers who reported reading the previous three out of four issues, and four out of four issues.

According to this year’s GfK MRI survey, 77.5 percent of Legion Magazine subscribers read at least three of the previous four issues. The percentage was 74.4 percent for the previous four out of four issues.

The American Legion and Costco Connection are the only magazines in the GfK MRI Doublebase 2016 study that recorded over 70 percent in the four out of four category. The average for all U.S. publications in the survey was 38.4 percent.

“The American Legion has been publishing this quality magazine for almost 100 years,” said Walter Ivie, chairman of the Media & Communications Commission, which oversees the magazine. “The survey results are, of course, encouraging. They reassert that our devoted audience treasures the content and advertising that we deliver each month.”

Ivie pointed to an example of how the Legion produces relevant and timely content for its audience of military veterans and supporters.

“I am very excited about a multi-part series that will kick off in September in the magazine – 'The Mind Field' – that will provide an in-depth examination of PTSD and TBI,” he said. “And I know our readers will learn new information about treatments for these injuries, as well as what Legion posts and members are doing to help our brothers and sisters who are recovering from the after effects of war.”
