Oklee Area Veterans' Memorial

The Oklee Area Veterans' Memorial idea originated in January, 2007. In May of 2008, fourteen Black Hills Spruce were planted around the memorial grounds, and a granite monument was placed. The granite monument is black "Carnelian Granite" from South Dakota, and it is 4' wide x 10" thick x 5'6" high. The inscription on the monument reads "Dedicated to the Men and Women of the United States of America who served in the Armed Forces in War and Peace to help further the Cause of Freedom in the World". Sixteen engraved granite benches purchased in recognition of area veterans surround the monument, and three walkways are inlayed with more than 250 engraved granite blocks memorializing or honoring area veterans. The American flag, the Minnesota flag and the POW/MAI flags fly at the site. The Oklee Area Veterans' Memorial was dedicated on July 4th, 2010 in conjunction with the Oklee Centennial celebration.
