The Owen Soldiers' Monument, North Scituate, Rhode Island, dedicated August 20, 1913

With calm pose the figure, its right foot resting lightly upon the dismantled gun and its right hand supporting a sponge staff, appears to be looking out upon the battle field on its front undismayed by its wild havoc. In its bearing and features it typifies the clear eyed, intelligent, brave souled American Civil War soldier boy undauntedly holding himself at his post, cooly awaiting orders. One can see in imagination the tense action of the comrades as they work the remaining guns of their battery, who in spite of the damaging fire of the enemy are finally holding their ground. On the the three sides of the base cut in the millstone are names of loyal men of Scituate, 1861-1865, who died in the Service.
