Perkins Cemetery Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Memorial

The Civil War memorial consists of a short stone obelisk tapered to a pyramidal top, with a flagpole adjacent. The obelisk is inscribed: G.A.R. TO THE UNKNOWN OF 1861 TO 1865. At the base of the flagpole embedded in the concrete is an American Legion medallion. (Note: The "Grand Army of the Republic" [G.A.R.] was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army, Navy, Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the American Civil War for the Northern [Federal] forces.)
