Oklahoma State University (OSU) Veterans Lounge

The OSU Veterans Lounge was dedicated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 8, 2013. The lounge is a large room with tables and chairs for studying or relaxing, a series of computer work stations, and a veteran’s affairs information wall display case. It is decorated with a wall mural depicting a timeline of military service at the university from the early years (1891), through the various interim war periods, to the present-day War on Terror campaign. Above the computer work stations are the Army Emblem, and Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Seals. Other military-themed paintings and pictures adorn the walls. Adjacent to the main entrance ramp to the lounge is a line of flags, including the American Flag, Oklahoma Flag, and those of the various branches of service, in front of a wall mural depicting OSU cadets in training. At both of the primary entrances are plaques inscribed: THANK YOU TO ANN AND JIM HALLIGAN AND THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS, WHOSE GENEROSITY HELPED MAKE THE VETERANS LOUNGE POSSIBLE. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THEIR LEADERSHIP, PASSION AND COMMITMENT TO OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY. IT IS WITH GREAT APPRECIATION THAT WE RECOGNIZE THE HALLIGANS AND STUDENT AFFAIRS FOR BEGINNING A NEW LEGACY FOR OUR ARMED FORCES AND VETERANS AT OSU. Also included on the plaque is the quotation: “GUARD ZEALOUSLY YOUR RIGHT TO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES, FOR WITHOUT THEM, THERE WILL BE NO OTHER RIGHTS TO GUARD.” – President John F. Kennedy, 1962.
