Major Scott Hagerty USAR Memorial Highway

A 7.5 mile, 4-lane segment of Highway US 177, between the towns of Perkins and Stillwater, Oklahoma, was designated a Memorial Highway in 2011, in honor of Major Scott Allan Hagerty, a member of the United States Army Reserve (USAR). He began his military service when he enlisted in the U.S. Army while still in high school. After graduation, he served as an enlisted soldier, was honorably discharged from active duty, and joined the USAR. While attending college, he served simultaneously in the USAR and in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Program. Upon his graduation from Oklahoma State University in 1993, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He subsequently served on active duty and with Reserve Component forces in Field Artillery, Military Police, and Civil Affairs assignments, in the United States and abroad. Major Hagerty died in Zormat, Afghanistan on June 3, 2008, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device (IED). He was assigned as a Civil Affairs Officer to the 451st Civil Affairs Battalion. Among his awards are the Combat Action Badge, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medals, Commendation Medals, and Good Conduct Medal.
