Mitchell County Veterans Memorial, Bakersville
The memorial to Mitchell County veterans of all wars is in the form of a granite shaft roughly four feet tall that narrows as it rises, much like a short obelisk with a flat top. The front is polished with rusticated sides and back. It stands on single base with polished top and rusticated sides. The polished face features an incised American flag at the top. Inscription IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD / AUGUST 1, 1972 A.D. / DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY / OF THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN / OF MITCHELL COUNTY, N.C. / LIVING AND DEAD WHO OFFERED / THEIR LIVES IN THE MILITARY / SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY
