Del City, Oklahoma Patriot Park Armored Command Carrier (M114-A1) Static Display

An Armored Command Carrier M114-A1, is on static display in Patriot Park. It was used in command and reconnaissance roles by the U.S. Army, primarily in Europe, but also in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The Carrier is positioned on a concrete pad, with a vehicle data sign, and 2 floodlights for night illumination, nearby. The tracked armored fighting vehicle was amphibious and could be deployed by parachute. The Carrier was dedicated on November 11, 2008 in honor of all U.S. Army veterans who served aboard this and similar tracked fighting vehicles, and specifically members of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, who fought from the Carrier during the Vietnam War. The name of a member of the Del City community who served in the Army, and after retirement, served as the Director of Del City Public Works, is inscribed on the rear of the Carrier in tribute to his service. The identification and vehicle data sign reads: “Armored Command Carrier M114-A1; Year: 1962; Manufacturer: Cadillac Motor Division; Total Production: 3095; Capacity: 4 combat soldiers; Weight: 15,276 Lbs; Powered By: Chevy 283 V-8; Max Speed: 36 MPH. Saw limited duty in Vietnam. Primary Service was in Europe.” At the bottom of the sign are: a representation of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment shoulder sleeve insignia (patch); and the emblem of the city of Del City, Oklahoma. (Note: Del City is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, with a population of some 22,008 (2014), is part of the Greater Oklahoma City (OKC) Metropolitan Area, and borders southeast OKC, Midwest City, and Tinker Air Force Base.) (Note: Patriot Park is the site of annual Veterans Day Ceremonies in which Active and Reserve Component military units and individuals, Veteran Service Organizations, civic, governmental, and fraternal organizations, local businesses, citizens, youth groups, and veterans participate. The park is a very veteran-friendly environment. In addition, it provides reserved parking for combat wounded veterans visiting the facility.) (Note: The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) participated in 11 campaigns, and was awarded 3 Presidential Unit Citations, 4 Valorous Unit Awards, 1 Meritorious Unit Commendation, and 5 Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Awards during the Vietnam War.)
