Fort Recovery Veterans Plaza

Fort Recovery Veterans Plaza

The memorial contains a semi-circle 70 ft wide, 35 ft. deep, red paver bricks, 7 granite piers with a branch of the service medallion on each pier, 144 brushed stainless steel panels (mounted between the piers) with the Veterans full name, branch of service and date served on inside panel. The outside panels have images of one of our local battles 1791, D-Day, Iwo Jima, Vietnam, the Blue Angels formation and other related military scenes. All panels are lit with LED lighting for night viewing. Our centerpiece consists of bronze military boots with a granite military history book under them and mounted on a granite hexagon pedestal base. The names on the panels date back to the battles of Fort Recovery 1791 and 1794 to present day. We have approximately 1475 names from our school district (which is one of the requirements to be eligible). Project was started with ground clearing in March of 2016 and completed for the dedication on November 11, 2016. The land the plaza is located on is owned by the Ohio History Connection and by working with them we agreed on our final design (meeting all their requirements). The committee contacted local contractors and started a fundraising campaign. The finished project was $190,000. This was all donated labor and donations with no federal funding and no tax dollars. NOTE: The historical monument can be seen in the background of the Plaza.
