Memorial to veterans of all wars, installed adjacent to the grave of Fred Hancock, the Renton Post’s namesake who was one of the first veterans from Renton, Washington to die in World War I. Hancock was a sailor serving aboard the USS Mt. Vernon, a troop transport, when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat on September 5th, 1918 and the resulting explosion killed Fred Hancock and two other sailors. Every Memorial Day the post conducts a ceremony in remembrance at the site at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
