Eber Duclo Memorial Park

Eber Duclo Memorial Park

The city park in Manitou Springs, Colorado dedicated to George Eber Duclo a Marine private who was the first soldier from Manitou Springs to die in World War I. He was killed in action at the Battle of Belleau Wood in France on 15 June 1918. The statue "Over the Top to Victory" AKA "Spirit of the American Doughboy" is mounted on a large boulder at the east end of the park. At the West end of the park is a small playground and a 1918 155 MM Howitzer. The original plaque was mounted in a small boulder, but has been removed from the boulder and stolen. American Legion Eber Duclo Post 39 is working with the Manitou Springs Historical Society and the city of Manitou Springs to duplicate the original plaque and mount it more securely in the large boulder with the doughboy statue.
