Jackson County WWII Memorial December 8, 1941 – August 14, 1945 Inscription: In tribute to the courageous men and women of Jackson County, Mississippi, who fought in World War II for the democratic ideals which we hold so dear. The memorial is located in Pascagoula, (Jackson County) Mississippi. Marker can be reached from the intersection of Fort Street and Hickory Street. Located with the Old Spanish Fort, also known as the LaPointe-Krebs House. The LaPointe-Krebs House is located next to the WWII marker, which was built in 1757, and is the oldest structure in Mississippi and is the oldest confirmed building in the entire Mississippi valley. It dates from the French Colonial period. The cannon is located in front of the LaPoint-Krebs House however, there are no specifics on the origin. The Memorial was erected by Business Girl’s Club, Inc., Jackson County, Mississippi.
