This memorial is to the Fairchance resident who earned the Medal of Honor during World War II. Serving as a medic with the 26th Infantry Division in France, on November 7,1944, Wilson was fatally wounded but refused evacuation to stay and treat fellow soldiers. He was Fayette County’s sole Medal of Honor recipient during World War II. Wilson is buried at this location.
