Carroll Harry Ervin Schmeling, longtime resident of Ralston, Neb., was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He served in the Navy from 1948 to 1952, serving on the U.S.S. Rochester, the U.S.S. Prairie and the U.S.S. Nereus. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Marie Schmeling; four children, Connie, Bonnie, Paul and Paula; wife Elaine (2008), brother Wilferd; sister and brother-in-law Harriet and Dean Meyer; and sister-in-law Judy Schmeling. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Brian and Connie Schmeling of Louisville, Neb.; grandchildren Allison, Emma, Benjamin and Nicholas Schmeling; brothers and sisters Alvin (Janet) Schmeling, Lincoln, Neb., Marilyn Chapman, Laughlin, Nev., Dean Schmeling, Fremont, Neb., Craig (Judy) Schmeling, Laughlin, brother-in-law Ed Behnke, Durant, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. BURIAL: St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Whittemore, Iowa.
