Lloyd Milton Logan

A longtime resident of Mobile and native of Arkansas, Capt. Lloyd M. Logan, U. S. Coast Guard (retired), crossed the bar on May 14, 2016.
He was born in North Little Rock, and lived in Atlanta, Miami, Memphis, and Brinkley, Ark., during his early years. A graduate of Miami Senior High School, he was employed by the U.S. Post Office until he enlisted in the Coast Guard prior to Pearl Harbor. His assignments during his 30 years of service to our country included the Reserve Officers Training School, New London, the Armed Forces Staff College, Third, Seventh, Eighth, and Twelfth Coast Guard Districts, nine ships, three of which he commanded. His final duty was commanding officer, U. S. Coast Guard Cutter MORGENTHAU (WHEC722) deployed to Vietnam, for which service he was awarded two Bronze Stars with Combat V, and the Navy Commendation Medal by the Secretary of the Navy. The cutter and crew earned a Navy Unit Citation.
Logan is a graduate of the University of South Alabama, a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, Loop Lodge No. 895, F & AM, and other service organizations.
His parents and his wife, Rena Katherine Hunt, preceded him in death. Son Richard (Teresa), four grandchildren: Katherine, Michael, Brad and Matthew and a great-grandson, Joey, survive him.
As per his wishes, Logan’s ashes will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico in a private ceremony. He requested that any remembrances should be made in lieu of flowers to the Gulf Shores Zoo, 1204 Gulf Shores Parkway, Gulf Shores, AL 36542, the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department, 12105 Alabama 180, Gulf Shores, AL 36542, or a favorite charity.
