David Gerald Corlett

David Gerald “Jerry” Corlett passed away at 85 on June 16, 2016. He was born on March 26, 1931, in Ishpeming, Mich., to David and Eleanor (Murton) Corlett. He graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1949. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Air Force from 1950 from 1954, spending the last three years in Germany. He returned home and received his BA from Northern Michigan University in 1959 in Industrial Education, and then his MA from Northern Michigan University in Elementary Education.
Upon graduating, he taught elementary education from 1959 to 1966, serving then as the Breitung Township Elementary principal from 1966 to retirement in 1989. He married Patricia (Jandron) Corlett in Ishpeming, on May 10, 1958, and she preceded him in death on March 29, 2014.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Claudia (Matthew) Corlett-Stahl and Heather (Matthew) Corlett-Harrell; beloved grandchildren, Darbi Simmons, Maclaine Stahl and Cameron Stahl; nieces Julie (Gagnon) Johnson, Christine (Gagnon) Ratanen and Michelle Gagnon; nephews Alan (Patti) Garceau, Dennis (Carla) Garceau and Scott (Georgianna) Garceau.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Jandron) Corlett, mother Elenor (Murton) Corlett, father David Corlett and sister Jill (Corlett) Gagnon.
Claudia, Heather and families would like to send their sincere thanks to the amazing staff at Freeman Nursing Home and Dickinson County Memorial Hospital - you did a great job at taking care of our dad when we couldn’t. We would also like to express a special thank-you to Jim Debelak, Jim Verley and countless other friends who cared for, visited and loved our father throughout his long wonderful life.
