Obituary for Ernest "Ernie" B. Ervin
Ernest B. Ervin - "Ernie or Grandpa or Pepa" - passed away in Oklahoma City on June 11, 2016. He was born in Kress, Texas, on Aug. 11, 1926, to the Rev. Robert Lee and Byrdie Ervin.
The Ervin family moved between Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri due to the calling by Rev. Ervin to start churches in these areas.
Ernie met Virginia Helen Still in Seligman, Mo., and it was love at first sight. Before an extended relationship was able to blossom, Ernie was drafted into the Navy, spending time as a truck driver on the island of Okinawa.
At the end of World War II he returned to Seligman to continue courting Helen. They were married on Oct. 16, 1947, spending 66 years together each other’s one and only love. Marriage took them back to the panhandle of Texas and then to Oklahoma City. Ernie went to work for Tinker Air Force Base, later transferring to FAA where he retired in 1979. He took up the hobbies of creating stain glass windows as well as repairing antique clocks. Ernie’s biggest love was his wife followed byTory and Chase, his two grandsons. Grandpa's Pastime was his Pastime. He had a strong faith in God and his family. Ernie had too many life accomplishments to be listed in the detail he deserves. If you knew him, you knew he had many accomplishments.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; and three brothers, JW, Sam and Robert Frank Ervin.
He is survived by two sons, Jim Ervin and wife Jane of Fort Worth, Texas, and Terry Ervin and wife Robin of Moore; grandsons, Tory Ervin of Greenville, S.C., and Chase Ervin of Moore; and one brother, Jerry Ervin of El Reno.
He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, www.ResthavenOKC.com.
