Richard Norman Mitchell Sr.

Richard “Papa” Norman Mitchell, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Portland, a son of John and Virginia (Tucker) Mitchell.
Richard grew up in Portland and Windham, and was a 1959 graduate of Windham High School. He had a passion for anything mechanical, and was the owner and operator of Atlantic Fuel Injection for over 40 years, with his left-hand man Bruce. Richard enjoyed a variety of hobbies including hunting, fishing, bowling, snowmobiling, playing Texas Hold’em and snowplowing with Bubba. He loved camping and traveling the country with his wife Stella in their 1963 converted Greyhound bus. Richard will always be remembered for his sense of humor especially his “Dickie” Jokes.
In addition to his parents Richard was predeceased by his son, Jon Scott Mitchell; brothers Ralph, Sheldon and Tony, and his sisters, May, Mary and Winnie. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Stella (Elliott) Mitchell; son, Richard N. Mitchell Jr. and his fiancée Jackie Kennie of Auburn; and his daughter Pamela Merrill and her husband David of Windham; siblings, Warren and Ruth; grandchildren, Brandi, Devin, Nicole, Courtney, Justin and Darby; and great-grandchild, Payten.
Richard’s family would like to thank Dr. Ebriham and staff for taking such good care of him through his 17 years of illness.
