Wayne E. Surrena

Wayne E. Surrena of Grove City passed away in Countryside Nursing Home, Mercer, at 9:03 a.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017. He was 96. Wayne was born in Harrisville on April 13, 1921, to Carlyle and Florence (Lyons) Surrena. He married Alene O. Beegle on Sept. 7, 1940; she preceded Wayne in death on March 12, 2007.
He served in the Army during World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theatre of Operations. A decorated veteran, he was awarded a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars. He was a member of American Legion Post 852, Harrisville.
Wayne retired in 1981 from the former Cooper Energy Services, Grove City, where he was a machine operator for 40 years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grove City.
A member of Free and Accepted Mason Lodge 603, Grove City, he also belonged to Scottish Rite's New Castle Consistory.
Survivors include: a son, Edwin L. "Ed" Surrena and wife Ann, Mercer; two grandchildren, Jason Surrena and wife Cassandra, West Chester, Pa., and Amy Surrena, of Indiana; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Fales and Gladys Seelbaugh, both Grove City.
