William Paul Burns

Paul Burns, 87, of Montello, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, surrounded by his family. Paul was born in the Black Earth area on May 17, 1930, one of 11 children to the late Peter and Regina (Leary) Burns. He served in the U.S. Navy on the battleship USS Iowa during the Korean War from 1951-1955.
Paul married Eleanor Moyer on Dec. 5, 1953, and enjoyed 55 years of marriage until her death on May 24, 2009. They owned Burns TV & Radio in Waterloo for 30+ years retiring to Montello in 1992. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Montello, and a longtime member of American Legion Post 351, Montello Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Waterloo.
Paul is survived by his 5 children: Paulie (Joe) Sellnow of Waterloo, Pam (Steve) Hubacher of Waunakee, Brian (Mary) Burns of Baraboo, Jim Burns of Marshall and Bonnie (Randy) Ellis of Layton, Utah; 2 sisters, Barbara (Donald) Moyer of Mt. Horeb and Sharon McCarthy of Madison; and 2 brothers, John (Pat) Burns, Deforest, Peter (Jean) Burns of Paoli; 17 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by Eleanor's siblings Donna (Virgil) Kelter, Linda Arneson, Russell (Donna) Moyer and brothers-in-law, Bob Suchomel and Roscoe Sawle.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor, his parents, 4 brothers (Bob, Roy, Harold and Jim), 2 sisters (Alice and Mary), in-laws Milo and Helen Moyer and sisters-in-law Arlene Suchomel and Shirley Sawle.
