Cornell J. Tonza

Cornell J. Tonza, age 95, of Warrenville, Ill., and formerly of Maywood, Ill., passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at the Seasons Hospice in Naperville, Ill. He was born March 2, 1925, in Chicago to the late Aleksra (Alex) and late Milita "Alice" Tonza.
Cornell was a proud Army Air Force veteran of WWII holding the rank of Sgt. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Air Offensive Japan, New Guinea, South Phillipines, Luzon and Western Pacific.
He was a die-hard Cubs fan, and had a love of airplanes. He was a member of American Legion Post 43 in Naperville.
Cornell and his late brother, Ted, were raised in Chicago. He was married to the love of his life, Leona Smith, who precedes him.
He is survived by and was the cherished uncle of Marilyn (Boyd) Derby, Fred (Sue) LIndemann, Frances (Larry) Cormany, Edward (Kathy) Driskell and Shirley Driskell. Many great- and great-great nieces and nephews. Cousin Helen Cauweis of Palatine, Ill.
His request was to be cremated and interred at Abraham LIncoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
