James A. Lomauro

James Allen Lomauro, age 93, died surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Bridges by Epoch in Andover, Mass. Born April 15, 1928, in Passaic, N.J., he was the son of the late Dr. James Rosario Lomauro and Madeline F. (Smith) Lomauro. He was a graduate of Pope Pius XII High School in Passaic and a 1951 graduate of William Paterson College with a BS degree in education, and earned his master's degree in education administration and supervision at Montclair State College in 1957.
He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force, enlisting in June 1951 at Sampson Air Force Base, Geneva, N.Y. He was a Flight Leader School graduate and Academic Instructor School graduate in military science and tactics. He then taught, at the rank of staff sergeant, Military Science & Tactics (atomic, biological, chemical warfare, rumors and propaganda, first aid), Land & Live Survival for arctic, jungle, desert, ditching survival, medical evacuation, use and care of parachute. He graduated Officer Candidate School at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio in 1953, was honorably discharged and accepted a commission as second lieutenant, assigned to Lowry Air Force Base, Denver. He graduated as air intelligence officer, photo interpretation/radar. In September 1953 he transferred to Active Reserve, in which he served until 1961.
He was a dedicated member of Korean War Veterans, Taejon Chapter 170, American Legion Post 171 and Catholic War Veteran Post 1710. He taught in public schools from 1953 to 1986 in Fair Lawn, N.J. Teaching was as natural as breathing to him, with a dedication to promoting learning and awakening potential for children. He taught Native American Indian lore at Knights Day Camp in Upper Saddle River, N.J., for many summers, as well in retirement with Project Impact and Audience Pleasers. He played the piano from childhood well into his senior years and enjoyed playing at VA hospitals and for many parties and family gatherings.
Jim's joy of life and caring for others made the world a better and happier place. James was predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor (Carr) in 2014 and his son, James, in 2014. He is survived by son Thomas Lomauro and wife Laurie, grandson Andrew and wife Leah, great-grandsons Griffin, Parker and grandson Matthew; his four daughters and two sons-in-law, Joyce Barlow and Peter Barlow, Susan Lomauro, Amy Lomauro, Lynne French and Terence French, and grandchildren Grace, Justus and Olivia.
