Things to do

Nicollet Mall, a 12-block portion of Nicollet Avenue running through downtown Minneapolis, is being revitalized for the Super Bowl the city is hosting in February 2018. By the time the Legion’s convention kicks off in August, Nicollet Mall will once again be the shopping and dining district of the city.

Sidewalk cafes, restaurants, art installations are all within a walkable distance. On Thursdays during the summer, a farmer’s market takes center stage.

And, if the August heat becomes unbearable, the skywalk system provides some refuge.

Eat, drink and be merry
Downtown Minneapolis features all styles of restaurants for all types of palates. Irish pubs. Classic Italian fare. Vibrant bistros. Food trucks with flair.

Perhaps the most unique culinary creation is the Jucy Lucy, a burger featuring a ball of American cheese stuffed into two thin patties. The cheese gets gooey and melts — or explodes — in the diner’s mouth.

Matt’s Bar, located on Cedar Avenue in southern Minneapolis, is credited with being the originator of this Minnesota specialty. Other Minneapolis restaurants offer their versions of Juicy Lucys — same burger but with the correct spelling — and Hell’s Kitchen has the Juicy Lucifer on its menu.

For those interested in the craft brew scene, there are many options in Minneapolis.
Surly Brewing is among the options and features dozens of locally crafted brews, including Pre-Prohibition American Lager. Tours of the brewery are available each day of the week.

Tours by boat, bike and foot
There is no shortage of ways to explore Minneapolis — there are various types of tours for people with different passions.

For example, visitors can enjoy the Mississippi River, the Chain of Lakes and other bodies of water with upscale or low-key boat tours available. There are plenty of options for biking and walking tours, as well.

Other tours are centered around food, craft brews and the city’s landmarks.

Purple reign
Legendary entertainers are honored in Minneapolis — a large mural of Bob Dylan, the iconic Mary Tyler Moore statue and, of course, the former private estate of singer Prince.

Paisley Park — which is in Chanhassen, just outside Minneapolis — showcases the late singer’s music, career and life. If you are interested in touring the museum, plan ahead — tickets must be purchased online, https://officialpaisleypark.com. For group and private tour inquiries, email info@officialpaisleypark.com.
