Who is eligible to receive the Legion’s annual National Education Award?

A person, group or organization which, in the judgment of the Legion’s National Committee on Education, has best promoted either the educational programs of The American Legion, any educational programs that correspond to Legion goals, or education goals at the national level.
Since its institution in 1980, these criteria have led to a diverse group of honorees: first ladies Barbara Bush and Laura Bush, who both made literacy cornerstones of their public platforms; Michael Peterson, a longtime supporter of the Legion’s Legacy Scholarship Fund; and Sesame Street Workshops, which in 2009 produced the “When Daddy Comes Limping Home” DVD.
The full list, which also includes children’s performers, politicians and more, can be seen at here on pg. 33-34.
