Outstanding military students

Each year, The American Legion sponsors awards given to an exceptional student at each of the five military academies. The academy determines what area will be honored, and the Legion's Trophies, Awards and Ceremonials Committee presents a recommendation to the National Executive Committee for approval by resolution. The 2011 winners, honored in ceremonies this spring, are:

U.S. Military AcademyCadet Woo S. DoCadet Woo S. Do received this year's American Legion award for the highest standing in chemistry at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. 2010-2011 National Vice Commander William F. Schrier presented the award.

U.S. Air Force AcademyCadet Eric J. RobinsonCadet Eric J. Robinson received this year's American Legion Outstanding Cadet in Academic Performance Award at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.2010-2011 National Vice Commander Russell J. Henry presented the award.

U.S. Coast Guard AcademyEns. Carl A. LuxhojEns. Carl A. Luxhoj received this year's American Legion award for excellence in athletics at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.2010-2011 National Vice Commander John M. Mella presented the award.

U.S. Naval AcademyEns. Nicholas R. BirgerEns. Nicholas R. Birger received this year's American Legion award for the highest marks in English, history and government courses at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.2010-2011 National Vice Commander Eugene R. Pytka presented the award.

U.S. Merchant Marine AcademyMidshipman Nicolas Alexander MannMidshipman Nicolas Alexander Mann received this year's American Legion award in the category of national security at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.2010-2011 National Vice Commander Carlos Orria-Medina presented the award.
