American Legion CSM Gary W. Crisp Post 289 is one of the BSA Middle Tennessee's Council's biggest chartering organizations with one Cub Scout pack and four Scout troops. Once again they will host Jamboree on the Air (JOTA), which is the largest Scouting event in the world. It is held annually during the third full weekend in October. JOTA uses amateur radio to link Scouts and radio operators around the world, around the nation and in your own community. This jamboree requires no travel, other than to a nearby amateur radio operator’s ham shack. It’s a great way to get more youth interested in amateur radio while demonstrating the fun as well as the service aspects via emergency communication of amateur radio. The scope of your JOTA activities is only limited by your imagination. This will be the new post's fourth year in a row but our new radio club's first time. We have Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts who come from all over to participate. There is no cost except if you want to buy the annual JOTA Scouting patch. Please contact Post 289's Larry Johnson for more information.
