OCW grant will provide relaxation for wounded warriors

On Thursday, The American Legion Department of Virginia will present Operation Comfort Warriors funds to provide for much-needed therapy for wounded warriors recovering primarily at the Fort Belvoir Warrior Transition Unit and Walter Reed National Medical Center.

The Legion’s grant will fund five veterans’ one-week visit to the Warrior Retreat at Bull Run in Haymarket, Va. The Legion will sponsor a room for five consecutive weeks, allowing five veterans and their families to stay at the facility for no cost.

The $10,000 provided through OCW covers food, lodging and events at Warrior Retreat at Bull Run, an 11,000-square foot, five-bedroom home on 37 acres in the historic and picturesque Virginia countryside in Prince William County. The retreat, operated by the nonprofit organization Serve Our Willing Warriors, provides activities, special events and camaraderie for its guests.
