Fourth Estate entry deadline extended

The American Legion has announced the call for entries in its annual Fourth Estate Award program for excellence in journalism. The awards recognize Internet-journalism, print and broadcast achievements. Submissions are judged on the quality of reporting that the journalist believes produced a positive effect on society. The deadline for submissions in all categories has been extended this year, from Jan. 31 to Feb. 18.

"The American Legion awards multiple prizes to recognize the outstanding achievements being made in print, broadcast, and new or online (Internet-based) media," said Public Relations Commission Chairman Robert L. Morrill. "The winner in each category will receive a $2,000 stipend to cover expenses and travel to accept the awards at the 2013 American Legion National Convention, to be held in Houston in August."

An entry form and updated rules and information have been posted here.
