Legion to recognize scholarship recipients in D.C.

The American Legion and Samsung are hosting a special recognition in Washington, D.C., for the 2016 Samsung American Legion Scholarship recipients.

The 10 scholarship recipients will arrive in the nation's capital on June 5 where they will enjoy a dinner with Samsung and Legion staff, along with members of the Samsung American Legion Alumni Association (SALAA) who are also scholarship recipients. The following day, the scholars and SALAA members will present an Operation Comfort Warriors grant to the Armed Forces Retirement Home and enjoy a walking tour of monument and memorials in D.C.

Before departing for home on June 7, the scholars will have breakfast on Capitol Hill where they will hear from 1999 Samsung scholarship recipient and SALAA board member Matthew Barreau, along with other special guests.

The Samsung American Legion Scholarship recipients earned the award for their participation in either American Legion Boys State or Auxiliary Girls State, and for being direct descendants (or legally adopted children) of wartime veterans eligible for Legion membership. Each awardee was also selected according to his or her involvement in school and community activities, academic record and financial need.
