Guidance to service officers provided to assist displaced students

Since the Sept. 6 announcement that ITT Tech is closing its campuses nationwide, affecting more than 6,000 veterans using GI Bill benefits, The American Legion, Student Veterans of America and VA are working together to provide guidance to those affected.

The American Legion’s “Displaced Student Service Officer Information Guide 1.0” presents information about how school closures impact education benefits, federal student loans and credit transferability.

Service officers are also provided responses to some frequently asked questions veterans have about their higher education due to the closures and in the event of others. The American Legion does not recommend colleges to students facing this dilemma but can provide steps and information about next steps.
