New York SAL squadron supports Chaplains Hill updates

An updated Protestant Chaplains Monument will soon be placed at Chaplains Hill in Arlington National Cemetery. The updated plaque and granite monument will still list the names of 117 Protestant chaplains who perished in service during World War II; however, it will also now feature the names of 24 Protestant chaplains who died in service during the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cold War and War on Terrorism.

Sons of The American Legion Squadron 135 in White Plains, N.Y., along with Past National Commander Mike Helm and Past National Chaplain Randy Cash, have been instrumental in the planning process of the updated monument, as well as a new monument on Chaplains Hill that honors chaplains killed in service since 2000. They too have part of the planning for a new walkway that will provide access up to the 30-foot high Chaplains Hill.

There are four monuments on Chaplains Hill that are dedicated to the memory of chaplains who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Plans are in place for a new plaque to be added to the Catholic Chaplains Monument that will honor chaplains lost in the War on Terrorism.
